Deep tissue uses some of the same techniques as Swedish massage but focuses on the deeper muscles and connective tissues and generally uses more pressure. Deep tissue should never hurt but may be more uncomfortable then the Swedish style. Everyone has a different tolerance for pain and you should always let the therapist know if the pressure needs adjusting. This is preformed with the client lying on a padded table with the client dressed down to their comfort level and draped for privacy and comfort. Sessions are usually done in 60, 90, or 120 minute lengths. With the deeper more focused therapy this will help release the chronic tension and adhesions within the muscles.
